Joining SIGDAT

Welcome to the SIGDAT membership page. To contribute to the decisions regarding EMNLP 2008 and 2009 (see below),
you must become a member of SIGDAT. Membership is free and open to all ACL members.

Please fill out the following form to join SIGDAT, ACL's special interest group in linguistic data and corpus-based methods
in natural language processing. SIGDAT is the sponsor of EMNLP, the Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing.

As a member of SIGDAT, you will be consulted from time to time regarding both the initiatives you would like SIGDAT to take and
regarding your preference for the location of future SIGDAT conferences. You will also be able to vote for SIGDAT officers.

To help us, could you please complete the following survey:

1. EMNLP 2008 Details

Based on over 400 responses to a survey given at ACL 2007, and a vote of the SIGDAT organizing committee, EMNLP 2008 is
planned to be held in mid October in Honolulu, Hawaii, in conjunction with AMTA 2008. Additional details will be provided
shortly. The paper submission deadline should be in early June.
a. Do you expect to submit a paper to EMNLP 2008 (June deadline)?
Definitely   Likely   Not Likely   Definitely Not
b. Do you expect to attend EMNLP 2008 in Honolulu if you are NOT a presenter of a paper
(we assume that presenters will attend):

Definitely   Likely   Not Likely   Definitely Not
c. If you are at all considering attending EMNLP, do you prefer:
    October 18/19 (Sat/Sun) before AMTA
    October 25/26 (Sat/Sun) after AMTA
d. Would you prefer:
a 3 day meeting including Monday
a 2 1/2 day meeting including Monday AM
    a 2 day meeting (Saturday/Sunday only)

2. Location of EMNLP 2009

EMNLP was first held in autumn (with a June submission deadline) in 2005 (Vancouver), quite successfully. We are experimenting with this
option in 2008 as well, given the desire of many members for a publication forum outside of the traditional winter/early spring submission deadlines.
In addition, SIGDAT does not want to contribute to the proliferation of additional meetings in years where there are already many ACL meetings,
so fall/winter EMNLPs need not happen every year.

SIGDAT/EMNLP also has a long tradition of its meeting locations rotating between world regions, and normally its 2009 meeting would be held in
the Asia/Pacific region. Balancing all of the above considerations, and your own personal preference,
a. Please rank your choice for the location of EMNLP 2009:
held with EACL Athens (March 30-April 3, 2009)
      held with NAACL/HLT Boulder (May 31 - June 5, 2009)
      held with ACL-IJCNLP Singapore (August 2-7, 2009)
held as an autumn 2009 meeting (probably in Europe)
with an off-season June submission deadline. (given that the
2009 ACL deadline would be likely be in February)
b. Would you attend EMNLP yourself in the following locations if you did *NOT* have a paper accepted at EMNLP or the main conference:
EACL Athens (March 30-April 3, 2009):              Definitely   Likely   Not Likely    Definitely Not
NAACL/HLT Boulder (May 31 - June 5, 2009):    Definitely   Likely   Not Likely    Definitely Not
ACL-IJCNLP Singapore (August 2-7, 2009):        Definitely    Likely   Not Likely   Definitely Not
An autumn 2009 meeting in Europe:                   Definitely    Likely   Not Likely   Definitely Not
